Hoick Suk, President of Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI), has supported the development of Korean IT and ICT industry, serving in the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) for about three decades after passing the 21st senior civil service examination in 1977 as a student at Yeungnam University.
He earned a master's degree from Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University. Then, he graduated from Graduate School of Public Administration at Sungkyunkwan University with a Ph.D in policy.
He held prominent posts at MIC, such as Deputy Assistant Minister for Information and Communications Policy Office, Director General of Office of Postal Services, Radio and Broadcasting Bureau, Telecommunication Business Promotion Bureau and Seoul Communication Office, Assistant Minister of Informatization Planning Office and Policy Management & Public Relation Office.
In particular, in 1987 while he was General Manager of Information Network Coordinating Board affiliated to the Office of the President, he laid the groundwork for Korea to push forward informatization and to nurture the ICT industry. Furthermore, in 1993, as Chief Official of Presidential Secretary for Economy at the Office of the President, he laid the foundation for the build-up of "IT Powerhouse Korea" by pushing for the early establishment of ICT network.
Currently, he actively engages in lectures and policy consultation as member of the Industry-University-Research Policy Committee, Seoul Metropolitan Government and National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC), Executive Director of the Future Society Research Forum, President of Unification IT Forum, Adjunct Professor at Yonsei University and Inha University, Advisor of Information and Communication Policy Review Committee at MIC and Director of Information and Communications University (ICU).
