Born in Tokyo, Mi-Hyung Kim grew up in Japan, Korea, Europe and the United States. After completing her secondary school studies at in Tokyo, she attended Wellesley College where she graduated with highest academic distinction from Wellesley College in 1986 with a B.A. degree in economics. In 1989, Ms. Kim received her J.D. degree with honors from Stanford Law School and was made an editor of Stanford Law Review in 1987.
Ms. Kim was recruited by Mr. Warren Christopher (Secretary of State during the first Clinton Administration) to work for the law firm of O¡¯Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles after graduating from Stanford Law School. At O¡¯Melveny & Myers, she specialized in banking and finance law. In 1992, she took a leave of absence from O¡¯Melveny & Myers to join the Kumho Business Group in Seoul and currently serves as the general counsel and executive vice president. Her primary duties include overseeing the Kumho Group¡¯s legal affairs, international transactions and concerns, and safeguarding the Group¡¯s interests, including considerable intellectual property. In addition to her regular duties as general counsel, Ms. Kim works closely with the chairman of the Kumho Group on special projects involving culture and education.
When Ms. Kim is not working for the Kumho Group, she collaborates regularly on articles relating to environmental law, human rights law and the impact of the internet on the law. She is a member of the Advisory Council to the Dean of Stanford Law School and serves on the board of the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation. In 2004, in recognition of her contributions and achievements, the World Economic Forum selected her as a New Asian Leader and a Young Global Leader. In 2005, Yale University invited her to become a Yale World Fellow.
