Kio Chung Kim is a professor of Department of Multimedia Science (1999.3 - present), Department of Computer Science (1986.3 - 1999.2) and the Executive Director of APEC Women¡¯s e-Biz Center (2005.8-Present). She has also served as the Executive Director of Asia Pacific Women¡¯s Information Network Centre (APWINC, 1997.8 - 2006.8), Sookmyung Women¡¯s University, Republic of Korea.
As the Executive Director of APEC WeBiz Center, she has been carrying out the APEC Initiative for Women¡¯s Participation in Digital Economy since 2005. The initiative aims to accelerate the widespread of informatization of women entrepreneurs and to serve as a catalyst in expanding e-business opportunities for starting businesses, micro enterprises and SMEs by 1) research 2) capacity building 3) e-community building 4) policy forum on women¡¯s enterprises and e-Business.
As the Executive Director of APWINC, she had lead the Korean national policy project on constructing web information service system for women¡¯s informatization, Asia Pacific Women¡¯s Electronic Network Training (WENT) supported by UNESCAP, Online Learning Center (OLC) supported by UNESCO, and numerous Gender and ICT capacity building programs supported by Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), Ministry of Gender Equality (MOGE), and private sectors of Korea.
She has served as an editor of APWIN Journal since 1998 and has written over 50 technical articles on knowledge-based system and over 30 Gender & ICT related articles. She was the principal author of the theme paper, ¡®IT Capacity Building for Women¡¯s Economic Empowerment¡¯ for ¡®2nd APEC Ministerial Meeting on Women¡¯. She conducted numerous research projects such as ¡®Developing Women¡¯s Informatization Indicator in Asia and the Pacific region¡¯ with Korean Commission for UNESCO, ¡®Women¡¯s Right in the Information Society ¡¯in 2003, ¡®Facilitating Economic Activities of APEC Women through IT Capacity Building: the Shifts of Economic Activities and Business with IT Development¡± with MOGE in 2002, ¡°International Collaboration Strategies on Gender Awareness IT Issues¡± in 2001.
She served as a coordinator of International e-Biz Forum (2000.5 - 2001.12), and is still serving as a coordinator of Digital Media Forum (2002.3 - present). She also served as a member of Regional Advisory Group for Asia Pacific Gender Equality through Science and Technology (APGEST) project (2000.9 - 2002.3). She was also the director of Sookmyung Broadcasting Station for 2 years (.1995.8-1997.7)
She received a B.S. degree in Chemistry at Yonsei University (1971), Korea and a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Clarkson University (1991), U.S.A.
