On August 1, 2006, Dr. Bae-Yong Lee was named the 13th president of Ewha Womans University, the world’s largest female educational institute. A prominent woman historian in Korea, Dr. Lee is known for her dedicated work in the study of the Korean modern history and women’s history.

She served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Director of the University Archives at Ewha Womans University. She is also the President of the Korean Women’s Historical Studies Association and President of the Choson Dynasty History Association, and is an active member of Seoul Metropolitan City’s Cultural Properties Deliberative Committee, National Institute of Korean History and a member of the Municipal History Compilation Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan City.

Dr. Lee graduated from Ewha Womans University as a history major in 1969. She went on to study at Ewha for her master’s degree, and then acquired her doctorate at Sogang University.

She is the author of numerous books, including “Women in Korean History,” “A New Understanding of Korean History,” and “History of Korean Social Thought.”
