 On August 1, 2006, Dr. Bae-Yong Lee was named the
13th president of Ewha Womans University, the world¡¯s largest female educational
institute. A prominent woman historian in Korea, Dr. Lee is known for her dedicated
work in the study of the Korean modern history and women¡¯s history.
She served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts
and Director of the University Archives at Ewha Womans University. She is also
the President of the Korean Women¡¯s Historical Studies Association and President
of the Choson Dynasty History Association, and is an active member of Seoul
Metropolitan City¡¯s Cultural Properties Deliberative Committee, National Institute
of Korean History and a member of the Municipal History Compilation Committee
of the Seoul Metropolitan City.
Dr. Lee graduated from Ewha Womans University as
a history major in 1969. She went on to study at Ewha for her master¡¯s degree,
and then acquired her doctorate at Sogang University.
She is the author of numerous books, including ¡°Women
in Korean History,¡± ¡°A New Understanding of Korean History,¡± and ¡°History
of Korean Social Thought.¡±
